Minutes of Lowndes County
Children’s Policy Council 

June 2, 2010

 

District Judge Terri Bozeman Lovell called the Lowndes County Children’s Policy Council meeting to order at 2:00 p.m. on June 2, 2010, at the Lowndes County Law Library, Hayneville, Alabama.

 

The meeting was attended by Judge Terri Bozeman Lovell, District Judge, Sam Cooper, BancorpSouth Bank; Angela Daniel, AllKids; Lakeisha Griffin, Lowndes County Helping Families Initiative; Sylvester Hardy, Upward Sports; Liletta Jenkins, DCA,  Adrian Johnson, Attorney; Mary Anne Martin, Alabama Character Initiative; Audrey Peterson, Lowndes County DHR, Gloria Simmons, Family Service Center of Lowndes County; Shakirah Tajuddin, Lowndes County DHR; Rachel Waters, DHR Director.

 

Judge Lovell welcomed members, followed by introductions by each present, and then approval of the minutes from February 3, 2010. 

 

Liletta Jenkins, field director for the Department of Children’s Affairs moderated the 2010 Needs Assessment update for the Lowndes County CPC members.  The members worked as a large group to address the three priorities submitted by the Lowndes County CPC in the 2009 Needs Assessment.  The members addressed the accomplishments of the CPC for the previous year.  Rebecca Leadingham and Shakirah Tajuddin provided data on teenage pregnancy and neglect and abuse cases, respectively.  Judge Lovell referred to the Kids Count data for the graduation rate, but asked the members for permission to submit data directly from the Lowndes County Public Schools. 

 

Judge Lovell agreed to submit the updates to the Department of Children’s Affairs by the deadline of July 1, 2010 and to provide a copy of the information to the members by email. 

 

The meeting concluded at 4:30 p.m.
